How Does a Scheduled Uber Work?

A scheduled Uber, which Uber calls Uber Reserve, lets you book a pickup up to 90 days ahead at a locked upfront price. What you hold at booking is a time, a pickup and a price. The driver comes later. Uber's own page says the ride is confirmed once you receive your driver details, and its help page says that if the assigned driver cancels less than an hour before pickup, the request is re-matched with another available driver. Knowing that order of events tells you what you are actually relying on.

Step by step: what happens when you schedule an Uber

Uber calls its scheduled rides Uber Reserve. Here is the sequence, using Uber's own pages, checked in October 2026.

1. You reserve a time. In the app you choose to reserve instead of ride now, then pick the date, the time and the pickup. Uber's page says you can book up to 90 days ahead. It is offered in many cities, not all of them.

2. You see a locked price. Uber says you lock in your price, with no surges or spikes. The footnote matters: the upfront price can still change if you add a stop, change the destination, the route or trip length changes significantly, or you pass through a toll that was not in the original price.

3. You confirm and wait. At this point you have a reservation. You do not yet have a driver.

4. A driver is assigned. Uber's page puts it plainly: your ride is confirmed once you receive your driver details. That is the moment a person attaches to your trip.

5. The driver comes to your pickup. If the plan holds, this is the whole story.

What the reservation does not hold

It does not hold a person. Until driver details arrive, the trip sits in Uber's system waiting to be claimed.

It can go back into the pool. Uber's Reserve help page says that if the assigned driver cancels less than an hour before the scheduled time, or is not online in the required time, the trip request is re-matched with another available driver. That is the safety net, and it is a real one. It is also a description of what you booked: a slot that any available driver can fill.

It costs more to walk away from. Uber's page says Reserve cancellation fees are higher than on-demand, depending on the circumstances.

None of this is a trick. It is a sensible design for a company moving millions of trips. It just answers a different question from the one most people are asking when they schedule a ride, which is who is coming to get me?

When a scheduled Uber is the right tool

For a trip with some slack in it, it works well. A dinner reservation across town, a ride home from an event, a pickup you could replace with a different car if you had to. You get a locked price and a car at roughly the time you wanted.

When you want a person, not a slot

Some trips cannot absorb a reassignment. The 5 AM airport run. The specialist appointment you waited six weeks for. A parent's dialysis three times a week.

For those, some passengers book a driver instead of a reservation. A driver who takes direct bookings has their own booking page at their own handle, with their name on it and the prices they set.

The person says yes first. A direct booking is one driver agreeing to one trip, on a time you picked. There is no gap between booking and finding out who.

The price is stated before you agree. The driver sets it, and payment is captured on the ride through their page.

It can repeat. A weekly appointment is about 50 rides a year. A weekday commute is about 250. Scheduled one at a time in an app, each one waits for a match. Set up once as a standing booking with a driver, the driver marks you as a regular, you give your consent, and the weekly ride bills on its own.

You get there by asking a driver you have already ridden with: "Do you take direct bookings?" Ask Your Driver walks through that conversation.

What this page does not promise

There is no list of drivers here. You cannot search one, browse one or be matched to one. SOLODRIVE.PRO will not find you a driver.

We make no reliability claim. No arrival, on-time or availability promise. A direct booking changes who holds your trip, not whether anything can ever go wrong.

We make no claim about any driver's background, screening, licensing or insurance. SOLODRIVE.PRO is a software platform, not a transportation provider. Rules vary by place.

If you are the driver reading this

Every scheduled ride you claim in the app is a passenger who planned ahead and still did not know who was coming. That is the rider most likely to book you again by name, if they had somewhere to do it.

Your own booking page gives them that place: your handle, your prices, your standing bookings, alongside the apps you already drive. That starts at /start/.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a scheduled Uber work?

You open the app, choose to reserve instead of ride now, and pick a date, a time and a pickup. Uber shows you an upfront price, and you confirm. Later, a driver is assigned to the trip. Uber's own Reserve page, checked in October 2026, says your ride is confirmed once you receive your driver details. On the day, the driver comes to the pickup you set.

How far ahead can you schedule an Uber?

Uber's Reserve page, checked in October 2026, says you can book up to 90 days ahead. Availability varies by city, so check the app for where you are.

Is the price locked when you schedule an Uber?

Mostly. Uber's Reserve page says you lock in your price with no surges or spikes, and its footnote says the upfront price can still change if you add stops, change the destination, the route or trip length changes significantly, or you pass through a toll that was not in the original price.

When do you find out who your driver is?

Later than you booked. When you schedule, you have reserved a time and a price. The driver is assigned afterward, and Uber says the ride is confirmed once you receive your driver details. Until then, nobody in particular has said yes to your trip.

What happens if the scheduled driver cancels?

Uber's own Reserve help page, checked in October 2026, says that if the assigned driver cancels less than an hour before the scheduled time, or is not online in the required time, the trip request is re-matched with another available driver. Your reservation goes back into the pool.

Does it cost more to cancel a scheduled Uber?

It can. Uber's Reserve page says cancellation fees for Reserve are higher than for on-demand rides and that you may be charged one depending on the circumstances. Read the terms in the app before you book a trip you might move.

Is there a way to book a specific driver ahead of time?

Not inside Uber. Some drivers take direct bookings on their own booking page at their own handle. If you have ridden with a driver you liked, ask whether they take direct bookings. Booked there, the trip is with that person by name from the moment they say yes.

Can SOLODRIVE.PRO find me a driver for a scheduled ride?

No. There is no list of drivers here, no search and no matching. SOLODRIVE.PRO is software drivers use to run their own booking page. Every path on this page starts with a driver you have already ridden with.
